Promotion of solar energy: Promotion of personal use in Odisha, emphasis on popularizing green-powered machines
In the meeting, the Chief Secretary asked the officers to prepare a plan for promotional activities and popularize the use of solar-based farm equipment, water heaters, lights and green-powered machines.
Odisha government is going to promote domestic use of solar energy in the state. The government has asked the Odisha Green Energy Development Agency to implement cost-effective incentive schemes. Chief Secretary SC Mohapatra has directed the Odisha Renewable Energy Development Agency to explore options to encourage private use of solar green energy.
In a virtual review meeting, the Chief Secretary asked the officials to prepare a plan for promotional activities and popularize the use of solar-based farm equipment, water heaters, lights and green-powered machines.
New solar technologies in the areas of cold storage, drinking water, millet processing, tailoring and rope making were also discussed in the meeting. OREDA Chief Executive Officer Dhananjay Swain said the agency has 4 lakh renewable energy installations as of July and has been able to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 30 tonnes per year.
OREDA has implemented 1,163 rooftop solar projects with a total capacity of 12.3 MW and 2.44 lakh biogas plants. He said it has also developed 13,219 solar-powered drinking water projects and distributed 1,687 irrigation pumps and 82,033 green lanterns.
